The first time I tasted wine, I was that person who said, “It smells like grapes.” So how is it I became an authority on wine, helping you feel proud about your ethical wine choices, delivering top-notch drops to enjoy with friends straight to your doorstep, plus insider knowledge and confidence on newly discovered wine selections to boot?
It started in the South of France, where I worked on an organic vegetable farm picking, planting and learning the naturalist French way of life. My love of organic produce came from the simple joy of tasting delicious, summer food straight from the farm. It’s not until you taste a warm strawberry picked by your own earthy hands that you realise how food can – and should – taste.
Later, back on Australian terroir – a fancy name us wine-types use to describe that magical combination of climate, soil, vines and farming practices – in the renowned Hunter Valley wine region, the questions started to stir in me. I sought further education in wine tasting, became equally curious about chemicals in our food, and started to discover that the wine industry isn’t always transparent about additives. I wanted to know: “What’s really in the glass?”
Today, as The Green Cube’s founder and visionary, my curiosity as to what’s in the glass underpins my mission. Sound complex? Like a light-bodied white, it’s simple and refreshing:
The Green Cube takes the fuss out of equation for people who just want to know they’re drinking premium quality organic wine. I’ll add here that we take the headache out of it too; did you know that organic wine has half the normal amount of sulphur dioxide than traditional wine – the very stuff that can cause headaches.
I know our customers as our friends. I’m trusted to deliver more than just a good tasting wine. I surprise them each season with worthy, innovative, organic or biodynamic brands, the very same I pour at a long and lazy summer lunch in our Hunter Valley home. I connect our customers with producers, and back them in their belief that wine can be produced in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. And the best part? It’s shipped straight to your door.
For the wine lovers who regularly invest in a bottle of wine – or three – from a vintage of their children’s birth year – can raise their glass in the future and doubly celebrate the fact they’ve supported the very environment their children, and grandchildren, will inherit. It’s a win for wine lovers, the industry, our environment and our palette. That’s our kind of happy hour!
The wine industry has taken me all over the all over the world – Canada, Germany, France, the USA and back again to my beloved home, Australia. This time, I’m here to take you on this journey with me. Now that we’ve settled in, let me pour you a top up. Invite some of your friends to join us too. I propose a toast to good health, a great environment, and outstanding organic wine.
